Every year in January, Amsterdam marks the start of the tulip season with the celebration of National Tulip Day. In 2025, on the 18th of January, the event will return for its 12th edition and is set to be extra special, as it will also commemorate the city’s 750th anniversary. Dutch tulip growers will welcome visitors to a massive tulip-picking garden featuring 200,000 tulips, all planted on the iconic Museumplein. The festivities kick off at 13:00., and everyone is invited to pick a free bouquet of tulips.
ACTIVITIES AND ATMOSPHERE
The tulip-picking garden is a popular attraction, so it’s advisable to arrive early to avoid long queues. On average, visitors can expect to wait around 60 minutes to enter the garden. During the wait, a dweilorkest (a traditional Dutch brass band) will entertain the crowd, playing classic Dutch tunes, including “Tulpen uit Amsterdam” (Tulips from Amsterdam). There will also be a footbridge offering a great view of the garden’s vibrant layout.
